University of Peace in Africa: Call for Registration
UPA Campus, Huye RWANDA, July 15 - August 5, 2018
Dear members of the Network of Institutions and Foundations for Peace in Africa,
Dear PANAFCI Members,
Dear members of the Emmaus Network,
Dear members of the WANEP Network,
Dear Academics and Peace Activists
The Africa Peace University (UPA) Team presents you and your partners with its Call for Registration for the 2018 UPA Session in Rwanda.
Find here the details of this year's program and registration. For 2018 our Campus is invited by the association of Peace AMI and teaches in two languages, English and French: by putting together the two linguistic hemispheres of the continent, the UPA still offers an additional learning in pan-African networking.
Our UPA is based on the idea of the Summer University as a model of adult education. In 6 basic modules, with the dynamic of the 3 weeks Residential Campus, the commitment of our international trainers allows the participants to develop and take greater responsibility as a Peacebuilder in their communities. The training offered reinforces the engagement in Civil Society and makes more effective programs and institutions, even state.
I invite you to circulate the information among your staff, your members and partners of the cooperation network. You certainly know several institutions and people who deserve this time of development and such encouragement.
N'hésitez pas à nous contacter pour toutes vos considérations et questions.
Bienvenu au Campus UPA 2018 !

STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
On November 25, 1960, the Mirabal sisters – three of four Dominican political dissident sisters – were murdered by order of Dominican dictator (1930-1961) Leonidas Trujillo, and since 1999, the United Nations General Assembly, designated the date as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women in their honor. Is it our imagination or was the day not marked this year by actions that were stronger and more widespread than ever before?
Diplomatic Success for Benin: Remarkable Support of the OIF for “Peace Through Another Way”
In the aftermath of the horrible terrorist tragedy that has just occurred in Egypt (more than 300 dead in a mosque!), The high authorities of the OIF (International Organization of La Francophonie), gathered in Paris on November 25 and 26, 2017 in plenary session unanimously adopted a resolution proposed by the Government of Benin to support this institution with the project "Peace by another way".
The "Peace Through Another Way" project promoted by Benin through the Pan-African Center for Social Prospective (CPPS), located in Porto-Novo, was launched with the support of the African Union, UNESCO and many other institutions in May 2015 at an international symposium in Cotonou which dedicated an African Education Initiative to peace and development through inter-religious and intercultural dialogue, supported by joint social actions of the associated religions for eradication of poverty.
A compass idea of this project holds the general attention
"Failing to place a soldier behind each citizen to ensure its protection, the only credible and sustainable option remains that - essential - to strengthen all the mechanisms of LIVING TOGETHER, despite all differences."
Among other achievements, the project "Peace by another way" has started in Porto-Novo, capital of Benin, "A House of Peace" in which spaces of prayer and dialogue - Christian sanctuary - Myriam mosque, Mother of Jesus - temple of the spirit for all other expressions of spirituality - will welcome worshipers and leaders of all cultures and religions.
It will be installed in the vicinity of the house of peace, a fountain of drinking water accessible to the neighbors of the village and symbolizing the need to conquer together the "MINIMUM COMMON SOCIAL", unique chance of a sincere and lasting peace.
OPENING THE DOORS OF "THE HOUSE OF PEACE" on March 19, 2018, is the ardent prayer of the promoters of the project "Peace by another way".

Welcoming Remarks
You are welcome to visit the website of the Network of Foundations and Research Institutions for the Promotion of a Culture of Peace in Africa.
The Network was created at the end of the Addis Ababa meeting on September 20 and 21, 2013 with a view to "creating a continental and sustainable peace movement capable of mobilizing African States, the private sector, African artists and leaders, international organizations and regional development actors as well as NGOs and grassroots associations". It is currently composed of 44 African and non-African organizations listed here.
